Fabio is back from his extended cruise in the Caribbean, so we're back in action this week. Some March Madness, some NFL offseason news and some Denny Hamlin and NASCAR. Rodney is out with a bad back, but King Nut bought a minivan so it all evens out (kinda).

To get in touch with King Nut and Fabio, send an email to dontdropthesoapsports@gmail.com

SPEAKER_05

There's a guy in Richmond, Virginia named King Nutt. You could pull off several firsts and a second and maybe a fifth and a seventh because you've got that much invested in. He ended up on the radio now and then talking sports. What happened on Saturday is not gonna happen on Sunday, just like what happened on Friday night doesn't happen on Saturday. He's even got good life advice.

SPEAKER_01

You slap your wife, you're going to jail. With this kind of talent, he needs a sidekick. We'll call him Fabio. And I like the way you're talking. With cell phone in hand, he's a sports talk freak show.

SPEAKER_02

How are they gonna be able to bond as a team? And that defense hasn't proven anything. They're gonna be able to put up a ton of points, possibly, but how many are they gonna give up?

SPEAKER_01

But then along comes another sports talk know it all.

SPEAKER_00

They had every opportunity to win that game.

SPEAKER_01

His name is Rodney.

SPEAKER_00

Especially if they get home field advantage. Only got to win two games.

SPEAKER_01

He uh also sponsors the show. World-class talent like this shouldn't go to waste. So the next step, come up with a podcast with a stupid name. Don't drop the soap sports. Don't drop the soap sports. Wow. From the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, this is the Don't Drop the Soap Sports Podcast. Here's the host, King Nutt, and the other host, Fabio.

SPEAKER_04

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining the extended break version of Don't Drop the Soap Sports. Why were we on Extended Break? Well, Fabio was off being shown in a cruise ship. In fact, we're changing it from Fabio to Christopher Columbus. Because I think as long as that damn cruise was, he went around the world at least once, even the flat part. Thought maybe he was gonna fall off, but he didn't. Fabio, how are you?

SPEAKER_03

I am amazing, refreshed, and ready to roll. Yeah. How long were you on that damn thing? Uh, we was on the ship uh 15 days, so gone uh I think 18 total days for it. So yeah. We had a great time.

SPEAKER_04

You missed a couple more snows. Yeah. What's happening today here? It's supposed to be Armageddon. Good thing my daughter-in-law's bought an eighteen thousand dollar survivor kit down at Riley. They they they'll they're ready to eat for the next four years on dried rations or some shit you see off of uh uh uh the uh infomercial somewhere.

SPEAKER_03

Getting that astronaut food.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. I'm glad so everybody enjoyed the cruise. A good one, huh?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was really good. When you go on the next uh August. August we go to British Isles.

SPEAKER_04

I got somebody that lives in my neighborhood, uh retired couple, and they go at least two a year. Okay. And they and I think the next one they're going flying to Seattle, fly to Alaska, and then they go from Alaska to Hawaii and back. Uh so they get both of both worlds. We are missing today the stud infamous insurance rock star Rodney Cole today, due to a severe uh injury that the two of us had yesterday playing a little charity softball game, a little fundraiser. Rodney is a little worse. I happen to be good because it happens in my house, so I can just if somebody can get me to the room where we record this, we're good. Uh Rodney's had a little back issue, and uh mine's a cramping issue. I've taken Mightall, and Rodney's taken Advil. So I hopefully we can get through all of it. But we are still being brought to you by Rodney Co. Insurance agency at Rodney Coinsurance Agency.com, and now he's not here, so I've got to give you the number myself. It's 804-569-6208. I encourage you to Google that and go on and meet his staff, look at all the places he's licensed to practice in. We've had some converts just from listening to the show in other states outside of Virginia where we're actually based. Fabio being, well hell, he can say he's from Houston to Hawaii to wherever the hell he was, the Christopher Columbus thing. But Rodney Co. Insurance Agency of 1617 uh uh companies represented, they'll get you a great deal, great, great coverage, great staff, great service. Call them. Uh they'll be glad to quote you over the phone, or you can go on to Rodney Coinsurance Agency dot com and kind of get the lay of the land on there. They they are a really high Yelp score, too, which is damn near perfect, 4.98. Go on, take a look at that uh Rodney Co. Insurance agency, and uh they'll be able to help you. So, Fabio, we're gonna flip real quick because we're all into that NFL and that free agency thing is getting really, really funky. But last night the selection committee comes out and everybody disagrees at all times. There's always a reason for disagreement. First four out, for last four in. How's this person a two seed and this one a five? Uh you and I's tar heels are sixth seed and play our home team, or my home team, the Virginia Commonwealth Rams, where my brothers were athletes. So I'm doomed to pull for one or the other. I think Carolina's kind of done, though, don't you?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're they won't make a deep run. I think they will get past Virginia, but if Illinois beats Penn State like they should, I think that's where it'll probably that run will end.

SPEAKER_04

Well they just uh Mike Rhodes is at Penn State now, who left VCU to go to Penn State. Uh if this guy doesn't win, I'm hearing his career up there is short.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. Yeah. Well that's a win now culture, right? No matter what, uh, no matter if it's pros or college. I mean, these guys are getting paid big bucks and they expect results immediately.

SPEAKER_04

So Yeah, my my grandson beat me at Checkers the other day, and my old lady fired me right on the spike. Make sense and she she took over from there. We're not gonna be beaten by a four-year-old. I just want you to know now that you're incapable, and uh here, I'll pay you the remaining part of your contract. Of course it was in eggs. I got a three. I saw something to get out.

SPEAKER_03

Do you see a clear-cut favorite when you look at that field? I don't. No. And that's what I kind of like about the March Madness. They're and years like this, um, I think there's uh probably eight, ten teams that that have a chance at it. I know uh Duke's probably gonna be at the top of a lot of people's uh list of winning, uh, especially like you like we talked about a little bit earlier today, that once they get their injured players back there. And they look good in the in ACC tournament for a team that's uh struggling keeping becoming healthy, but I I just don't know if if they can pull it off, but there is a lot of lot of good teams this year. I mean, Yukon struggled coming down the stretch, but still a good team. I think Purdue's a good team as well. Virginia played Duke extremely good, had a shot at winning that game there for the ACC championship and just couldn't pull it out. But there's a lot of good there, no clear-cut winner, though. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

I I I don't either. I you know, hell Florida State. Now tournament time is tournament time. You know, Rodney is a big Duke fan. He brought up to me that Carolina only led against Duke for 0.4 seconds. Could have been a technical foul, whatever. I said the horn rang. It was a technical horn rang, but the horn may have rang erroneously, or maybe it was an honest mistake, whatever. They won the game. Duke clearly was a better team. In the second matchup, it showed particular. Virginia, I think, is really sneaky good, and I think Florida's sneaky good. Uh so I think there's a lot up top. Let's see how this first weekend goes, folks. We'll go a little more in depth once this sweet 16 team comes about and gets us uh uh ready to go.

SPEAKER_03

Look at the Midwest, I think is going to be an interesting bracket. There's a lot of good teams shoved in there. Uh, you got Michigan, which is obviously good being ranked number one, but Iowa State's in it, Virginia's in there, uh, and Alabama, number four. Don't sleep on Alabama. They they have become super athletic over the last couple of years. I think that will be a good part of the bracket to keep your eye on.

SPEAKER_04

Hey, has not the SEC become a basketball conference as much as a football conference?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that football money, and we talked about it, that that football money has raised all sports. Yeah, they've getting all that SEC football money and uh they're putting it to use everywhere. And we talked about earlier too, schools that have lawyers and doctors and things, those type of schools you're going to continue to see, continue to get better. And here's just another aspect of it as well, with Michigan being a staple really at in their basketball coming back to what it used to be in the early 90s.

SPEAKER_04

So you're on a Christopher Columbus tour, and uh while you're away, uh your beloved Las Vegas Raiders send what I think is probably one of the most underrated players we've seen in a generation because of the team he plays for. No offense. And Max Crosby to Baltimore for two first round picks. Now, before I get your and then reneged on it, it's a failed physical. I I I watched the press conferences. Uh uh, we were gonna sign him and Hendriksen bullsh. Uh, but they you know they were working something, they said the physical, and I d I want to take them at their word, but he is one thing is if there's something wrong, it's I was getting ready to buy a new van, I'll talk to you about that later, as we lost our company car. So I went to look at the first one I was gonna buy, and it wasn't like it was showed on the internet, and I didn't buy it. I wasn't obligated to buy it, I'd had it brought here, but at that point, you can take it back wherever the hell it came from, to which I got another one. I got my Trey Hendrickson, if you will. However, I'll ask you, would it have changed I I know I'm gonna give you this runway, would it have changed the plight of the Raiders for the next three seasons? Because they'd have got tw a 26 pick, which would have meant they'd have had their number one overall plus one, and then they would have had a 27 first round pick and another one that's in there, even if they package it again to move up. What would it have done for the Vegas Raiders for that trade to have gone through?

SPEAKER_03

It's all about what you do with the pick, right? I mean, we've if you can go back and look at the Cowboys when they got all those Herschel Walker picks, um, how who they got made them who they were. Raiders as an organization haven't been very good at drafting. So I I would rather have what is it, one uh a bird in the hand versus two in the bush. Yeah. Uh Crosby's a proven entity. He's great. He's a top five defensive end, I think, in football. So for them, for that deal not to go through, I think it's more beneficial to that team versus two draft picks where you have to create a Max Crosby like they have with him, uh, versus keeping a known entity like he is. So for the Raiders, I think the that the trade not going through was a much better outcome for him than what it originally looked like.

SPEAKER_04

How about the Ravens? What does that do to them? They get Hendrickson, keep both of those picks.

SPEAKER_03

Five of one, five of another. I think it I think they're they're very similar players. What it does hurt is it hurts Cincinnati more than it hurts anybody. I mean, that defense struggling anyway, and then you get rid of their best player uh off of the defense. I think it it definitely helped the Ravens. Uh they needed some defense. Uh that that's what hurt them last year. They was unable to stop anybody when they could score. Now they're gonna have at least a uh a great defensive end to be able to rush the passer. So that definitely helped them, and they got him got him at a lower price than what they was paying for Crosby. So uh it's a win for them, and I think it's a win for the Raiders as well.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I you know, I thought looking at it because I'm a little bit closer to the Ravens because of the division playing against the Steelers twice. I thought the Ravens had a lot more holes than just a rush in. And that was one of them, because they couldn't close games out. They needed somebody that could get after a passer when the you know the other team was forced to pass. And that that Crosby and Hendrickson would have done that. I think you're a little bit below with Hendrickson than Crosby, but not uh not a me versus Hussein Bolt in a sprint. You know, it's not that big of a who am I kidding? I wouldn't have got off the line. You know, I mean I I what the hell. So anyway, I do agree that now let me let me spin it one one more angle of this. Yeah. With the Raiders are gonna take Mendoza, we we believe that. They get they got picks, he gets Crosby back, who's a good locker room guy, but you're changing some staff stuff. What about the the defensive coach of the Steelers? If McCarthy hires him as a defensive coordinator, uh he's had a couple stops, but with the Raiders were the last one, and even though the rankings weren't always good, uh he did have a top five with the Giants a couple times. What was it about him that made that defense the better part? We we all thought getting Gino, right? Drafting Genty, they had a I thought it was gonna be good, good look on the offense. Uh the defensive numbers didn't look great, but hell, they were on the field all the time. What was it about him? Was it Crosby? Was it a coaching? Was it a combo? Was the coach not that good? And they could they could have upgraded that too.

SPEAKER_03

No, I think the c I think he's a fine coach. Um I think the talent, talent level in the overall on Raiders was is subpar, and I think you've seen them address a lot of that through uh free agency, and you're gonna address some of it through the um through the draft coming up. But man, when you're working with uh professionals that are better than your professionals, it's tough to win. And to your point, they was always on the field. Uh Raiders had no running game, so they they never controlled the ball last year. So they would it felt like it was 60-40 every game, uh, that defense being out there, and they just got wore out. Um, not everybody has the motor that Max Crosby has, and those guys simply got tired a lot in the second half. So no matter how good you coach them, um guys are gonna they're gonna break down, they're gonna get tired. So with the the defensive money that the Steelers have spent in uh in the past couple years, I think he'll do a fine job for the Steelers.

SPEAKER_04

And they they got better. We'll we'll touch on that. They've they made some good. I think Dean was a great signing. And then last thing as we and then we'll move off the Raiders, what's the biggest hole they have?

SPEAKER_03

Right now, I still think it's wide receiver. I mean, I know they they signed Naylor uh from uh the Vikings. I'm sure Rodney's tickled about that, but um still they're not consistent enough on the outside. Uh that I think they did improve their line tremendously, especially with Linderbaum coming from the Ravens, and they're and they really improved their defense. Uh so front, middle, and back of their defense got better. So I think we still need someone else on the outside, and I think we'll address that probably in the second round this year uh of the draft and be able to solidify that that position because I think we'd have two of the best tight ends or one of the best tight ends in football right now.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you uh you could set it right. I think it's two real good ones. Yeah, and they got Connor Hayward as a third one from the Steelers, which I think he's gonna be sneakingly good. He's an all-purpose guy, can play fullback, he's a tush-push guy, he's a lot of things.

SPEAKER_03

Uh, yeah, that's what they decided him as as a fullback. And I was like, nah, he could do a lot, he can do anything, but yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's he's a quality player, and again, quality depth is what wins. It's not just those 22. You gotta have 53 that do it. If you look at the other free agency, and uh I mean, I'm sure on a boat you had internet, and you and the wife were sipping the middle. I was doing other things on that ship, but anyway. But did you see any signing that you know may not been a top headline signing or trade that you said, wow, that that's that's gonna work out good for both the player and the team?

SPEAKER_03

Something I'm interested to see is how um Kyler Murray does for uh Minnesota. I think he'll end up really pushing JJ for that starting spot. And we got the quarterback whisperer up there anyway. Is he the talent that we thought he was gonna be when he when he got drafted? And if not, what happens with him? It's only a one-year contract, league minimum, not a big loss, but if he performs like uh some of those quarterbacks that just end up winning the Super Bowl that came from Minnesota, what a steal that has been for those guys. So I'm curious to see how Kyler's gonna do there.

SPEAKER_04

I'm glad he didn't go to Pittsburgh because there was talks about that. I think him playing in a dome with his skill set, with that coaching staff, I know Rodney's excited. Uh, by the way, folks, we're brought to you by Rodney Cole Insurance Age. This is don't drop the Soap Sports, by the way. Rodney Cole Insurance Age at 804-569-6208 and Rodney Cole InsuranceAG.com. Big Viking fan. He really liked to sign it. And to be frank with you, if he was gonna go somewhere and the Arizona's covering all that salary, it's that Russell Wilson type thing when the Steelers got him. That's really good. How about Tua going to Atlantis? Good for both? Good for neither?

SPEAKER_03

Good for one? I think it's good for neither. I mean, they got a quarterback now they can't stay healthy that they drafted uh Penix. Now they've got another one they can't stay healthy. The only possible good news for them is they're both left-handed. So maybe Yeah, maybe they one goes out and he gets, you know, he gets dinged around, the next one comes in. You don't have to change a whole lot as far as how the ball's coming into the receivers and all that. But no, I don't I wouldn't have touched two. I don't I most teams wouldn't have. And they're paying him however much they're paying him to not play in Miami. That's how confident they are that they don't want him on that team. Yeah, well, hey look. I think they're paying him close to$100 million not to be there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you remember that's another one, but they get Willis from Green Bay. It's not very favorable media-wise, but I thought it was a pretty good signing compared to what they did by emptying that roster. I mean, sent Fitzpatrick to the Jets. They sent a lot of players away. Uh Tyreek Hill's not coming back. We don't know what they're gonna do with Waddle. Did you like the Willis signing?

SPEAKER_03

I did. I liked it a lot. I think um I know it's a small sample size, what we've seen out of him, but he's been solid. I think he's he's the type of guy you give him more the more reps you give him, the better he's gonna be. He's not gonna be a he's not gonna be Tom Brady. We know that, but he he could be a Kirk Cousins, I believe. I think he could be that type of a player. He can win you some games. I'm not sure how far he can take you, but how far has Miami been recently, right? So I think he'll be uh I think he'll be good for them.

SPEAKER_04

They they made it to purgatory. They didn't go all the way down to hell, but they so they're in line. Listen, so you get Willis over there, and it's gonna be a tough start, but you have no state income tax on that big ass contract, and then you got a guy like Mike Williams that leaves no state income tax on a team that was willing to offer him, and he moves to the highest tax rate you can get anywhere, the San Francisco area of California.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Mike Evans. I think it's an okay signing. He's getting I mean he's hitting up in years. He's not he's not the Mike Evans that we saw five years ago. Uh but they they can't seem to stay healthy in in in San Francisco, so it may be just for depth, but a veteran like him never hurts. I don't think it drastically changes the 49ers' uh trajectory next year, though.

SPEAKER_04

All right, I'm gonna throw you some stats. I want you to so in pro football focus, somebody that either irritates the shit out of me or I agree with them completely, they rank the free agency to this point, including trades, with what they call wins over replacement. So keep in mind some of these teams didn't win anyway, so it didn't take much to uh uh and they have zero negatives, which is a good thing. So number one is the Jets at almost a two-win upside, and that's with Geno, Minka Fitzpatrick, all the things, and they've they've had a pretty active free agency all the way down to the Bengals who are last at a.20. So you know they added Geno Smith and and Nashawn Wright, the corner, uh DiMario Davis, the linebacker, but they got some stuff going in there. Is there any one team and speaking of which I want to cover this real quick, Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett came out the same year. Steelers took a flyer on Pickett, which didn't work. He goes to Carolina as a backup from the Raiders. Uh Malik Willis, who was a third round peak, and people were scared to death the Steelers were gonna take him in the first round, ends up as a starter in Miami. It shows you just how wild this lead can be and how much talent evaluation means. And a team like the Steelers that very rarely miss on picks, like swing and miss. I think it was a stretch, Colburn on his way out, his legacy, Omar taking over, and they quickly moved on from him. What about the Carolina team that was mentioning because they're one of the higher grades with what they've done, including letting Rico Dow go to the Steelers. What do you see on the Carolina front there?

SPEAKER_03

What's encouraging about a Panther fan is they've they've they went out and spent some money. And you know, they did let Daldo go, but I think Chuba is a good running back. Uh, he was better when Daldo wasn't there the year before. So when he was the main guy, he performed better. And their defense gave up a lot of points last year. So uh them being able to secure those linebackers, uh, the the big linebackers that they got and offensive tackles that they picked up as well. With a team that surprised me last year, I think they got they got better. I don't know how to say they got I don't know if they got three or four. games better, but they they got marginally better with what they've done. And they'll compete in that in that division because they're it's a weak it's weak anyway. So they'll be able to compete in that and uh possibly squeak into the playoffs with a you know nine and eight ish record somewhere in that range. Could easily win that division.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah and and they let go of a back which I think Daddle is a good back but the Steelers lost their MVP in Gainwell. He went to Tampa. Gainwell uh it was good for that offense and was good for Aaron Rodgers. I don't know that he's that impactful in Tampa it worked for him in Pittsburgh and I think they think Dattle can be the same guy in Pittsburgh with a little more power. I'm gonna throw a couple of names at you before we move on Pickett uh John Mechie I'm sorry David Moore the receiver Mechie John Mechie the third and then uh you you re-signed David Moore they got Forsyth and Rasheed Walker uh the as tackles they got Luke Fortner as a center they got the edge you talked about uh Phillips they got Devin Lloyd and Isaiah Simmons a corner of safety and a long snapper that was one of those teams that had a lot of activity based on a lot of contracts that were done etc people are talking about the Falcons in that same division you know they franchised Kyle Pitts they signed a bunch of defensive linemen hell it looks like half the league got signed and they signed Nick Folk as a as a kicker Tampa and New Orleans New Orleans getting NTN that was a pretty big deal but what's going to happen now with uh Goldtooth Kamara yeah well I mean I but but again I I just am touching this division not because it's good for your geography but it looks like one of the ones that was a weaker division that teams were extremely active in it and all of them got fairly good grades to this point including the Falcons.

SPEAKER_03

That's pushing it with the Falcons I don't it just seems like a franchise that just doesn't know where it's what it's where it's going or what it's what it's trying to do. Kind of worries me about them and you watch they'll come out and they'll whip everybody's ass next year and make me look like I know what I'm talking about.

SPEAKER_04

That's a weird thing too because the AFC North plays the NFC South this year so we're gonna see a lot of activity between the two divisions particularly with what's signed here. Detroit got a little bit with getting Bridgewater as a backup they got Pacheco because they traded away a part of their two headed monster to Houston let me ask you Houston's one that uh that uh we'll kind of get close to the end on I didn't know what to expect I they beat Pittsburgh in the playoffs. I I get it and they beat him handily but turned the ball over if Pittsburgh could just have done anything with the turnovers you're good. Where was Houston missing what turns them from the Houston Texas to next year's Seattle Seahawks?

SPEAKER_03

It's it's that offense. I mean that defense was lights out. I think it was the best defense in football and it got better all year long. DeMarco's really doing a great job on that side of the ball they just have to be and the ETN helps that that side of the ball that they need help on. It felt like that defense either won the game or lost the game each week for them. If they give up 18 19 points they were going to lose and that quarterback Stroud's he's got to protect the he's got to protect the ball more and that's what you saw hurt him there towards the end of the year. And whether it's uh the talent that was around him or not it felt like he was trying to do too much with what he had around him and I think they did a pretty good job of s of surrounding him with some more weapons uh to be able to take some of that pressure off of him uh this year and I think you'll see them be in the hunt for a long time with in that division. So I like what they've done and and I love I like that coach too. I think he's I think he's top notch uh runs a good organization I think is a very well run team.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah and listen let me ask you because we we're full of coaches now recycled coaches uh even with McCarthy coming to Pittsburgh etc you getting and Tomlin again I've always said this it was a time for a change I you know the guy couldn't have been any more popular with his players he couldn't have been any more popular inside the league but he knew the time had come just like Coward knew the time would come to different reasons uh but they they believe the time had come. Let me ask you before we flip the race in to close the show is there any team what about getting the wide receiver more to the Bills?

SPEAKER_03

DJ Moore does it help Oh I think that definitely helps. I think DJ Moore is a great professional everything that he went through at Carolina and then getting uh with the uh the Williams all that trade he ended up in in Chicago and I think he tried to help Williams there to become a better professional and I think he I think this this last year you saw that I think he'll be really good for them. He's not the fastest guy but he is super steady a great professional I think he's that I think that is a huge upgrade for that team and I think Josh Allen's going to enjoy him being there.

SPEAKER_04

Speaking of which they they lost Mitch Trubitsky to Tennessee to Dallas right now but I'm looking at Tennessee signings and that looks about like your damn ship stopping ports because there's a hundred of them on here. So they've they've they had money they they got some receivers a couple tight ends a guard a center an edge couple edges if there is again one team that you think they were really close or somebody that looked good that did not or did either way get active enough or not active enough if you will which one is there anyone that stands out to you you thought would be a little more aggressive to get there?

SPEAKER_03

The Kansas City Chiefs were a little bit of both of that. I think they definitely addressed their running back situation uh with uh the MVP there, Kenneth Walker the third uh third good good signing for him uh they did get Travis Kelsey back for one more year. I don't know if they done enough on the other side of the ball to get back where they were I'm glad they didn't uh obviously I'm glad they didn't and would not care if they ever made the playoffs again but um I just don't know if they done enough I thought they would try to do a lot more but they did get probably the most high profile running back obviously they did sign. So and from all uh intents and purposes that's where Kenneth Walker said he wanted to be so got his wish but I I don't think they did enough to overcome what they did this year. Well you know again I think running back particularly in the third and fourth round this year is going to be a a pretty full draft so maybe they could have done it cheaper but they let go of some great defensive backs and guess who got the best one was our Los Angeles Rams who realized after watching what happened in those games the lack of secondary at least they went to me they're very good at it every year saying our biggest need here is free agent and so when they come to the draft they draft the player the best available player kind of the old uh as Les Sneed called it the old stealer model best available player draft develop your own I think they got good too let's close this out this episode with uh your thoughts on your first cousin Denny Hamlin and another Toyota uh winning a cup race uh uh you know I I gave it a look see when I got back from my injury plague softball tournament uh to what what's happening on the circuit there you got 2311 doing extremely well with the wins they've had and then you got uh it what what looked to me yesterday no matter where where position he was in Hamlin was the best car is he back in the hunt to be a champion again yeah he definitely is uh the Toyotas uh as an organization have been super strong this year winning four out of the first five races Tyler Reddick running the first three wasn't as strong uh Tyler Reddick wasn't as strong as those three wins would prove uh he did do great at Coda the road course with the other two uh anybody could have won those two races but I mean give the kid credit he was there uh Denny was by far the best car yesterday had a speeding penalty early in the race uh races way all the way back up through the field but all those uh Toyotas were strong yesterday um Joe Gibbs had four of them in the top eight I believe the strongest one I know anybody listens going what the hell are you talking about but Chase Briscoe he either has been wet uh up at the front uh in every race or been wrecked out of every single race he's he's marred back in the 20s in points but uh that car's fast and I think that driver has is really good in that 19 car. I think you'll see him too really good at Darlington coming up uh next weekend and then the Ford camp if Ryan Blaney isn't running good that Ford camp doesn't seem to be able to to perform right now. And Rick Hendrix cars obviously they're up front uh each and every week with Kyle Larson especially uh and uh that 24 car with the William Byron's been up there as well but Denny definitely uh with everything that happened in the offseason with his father and all those type of things um I don't I'm pretty sure he probably didn't come into the season with his mind right um he talked about it yesterday after he after he won the race that he's found a renewed love for the for racing and um everybody needs a hero and everybody needs a villain and Denny's been really good recently at being the being the villain uh moved in the top ten all time in wins yesterday passing Kevin Harvick uh with 60 wins so not many people have done it better than him no and nobody's done it better than him and not won a championship. So and he was that's what I was going to say guy Lee the wins he stacked and never be a champion that's something else you know and the guy was four laps away I think it was four laps away last year from winning it when uh Williams Byron right front tire blew and uh his uh teammate ended up winning the championship because of it so um I think he'll be there I think he'll be he'll be tough just like uh you know little Kyle Larsons away as well so you'll have the same players there towards the end of the year. But yeah he's definitely poised to make another deep run at it.

Well let me tell you as we close I'm glad you're back from your damn whirlwind sailing the seas and living a dream. Meanwhile some of us were back here buying minivans and uh we all have our thing to do, bud. Rodney I hope your back gets better. I know you're listening. Again we're brought to you by Rodney Coinsurance AG at RodneyCoInsuranceAG dot com. Please go online give them a look see uh they insure everything I got including this damn 40 pound cat. I think I got a life insurance policy on him just in case he can't get to his bowl. You might want to have one on you if that cat lays on it. Well that cat does not that ain't a lover. He's not a lover. He wants to eat he wants to eat and go to sleep so I don't have to worry about occasionally he'll get on my lap but generally that's one to say I'm about to bite you if you don't get me in here and get something to eat.

SPEAKER_03

Are the is the cat's allowed at the game day grill?

SPEAKER_04

Uh yeah well you know I don't think so. Speaking of game day I want to tell you something funny I'm gonna be up there this week on Thursday and try to catch a Duke games early in the afternoon. That's a great point. Game Day Grill up on 301 in Mechanicsville here. We had an event there this past week for my daughter-in-law's business launch was next door to business uh and then we all migrated over I'm not a wine and cheese guy which was offered there. However you know I am a shock top and wing guy so I was able to get over there and take my grandkids over there. Great environment. Game Day Grill, another one of the many ventures of Mr. Cole Ira, I'm glad you're back. Great to talk to you. We'll be back next week folks we'll touch on a little football if there's something there that kind of catch our mind but we'll go a little more in depth through this first week end of the NCAA tournament. Again, as much as college basketball's turned my stomach this is still an exciting thing this is a one and done opportunity and anytime any place anywhere somebody can be beat and that's what makes it exciting. Ira go enjoy retirement for another week sleep in get a cramp have to drink pickle juice in the middle of night or something I don't know sounds good my man if you want to reach out to King Nut or Fabio do it by email.
