It's crazy. Looked like it was going to rain all day. It's supposed to rain all weekend. I hope that it rains like shall cook in the gr uh rain, if that's what it takes. You remember when this was the softball weekend of all softball weekends? Oh, yeah. Memorial Day tournament in Richmond. They called it the world's largest tournament Ira. It got up to 46, 464 two years in a row in the late 90s. And we played that some bitch from elementary schools where if you hit the school, it was a double. They had to take every field they could take to get it on there. It was a big time, and now I think there'll be eight of them show up this week. And home run derby was all right. Oh, yeah. It would be a thousand people out there watching. We actually, for several years, Ira would work the home run derby in exchange for our entry fee. So we would go get balls, throw balls in, and and Frank Taylor would let us in the tournament for free for work in the tournament. And at the time I had a sponsor by uh Jerry over at Lito Pizza, and he would give us fifty large pizzas to give out that night walking around the home run derby. So good times. We're having flashbacks. One day I Rodney and I'll sit in rocking chair outside of some kind of home and talk about, you know, see that mountain over there, one day I'm gonna climb it, you know. Oh, it'll be more like I should have climbed it when I was younger. I ain't even thinking about it now. Well, look, the sports world got uh we we are recording on Friday, something normally we're Monday or Tuesday, had some little technical issues, some travel things, but we are back and and fortunately or unfortunately, however, it looks that the sports world has uh suffered a loss, a really strange one, and what most consider the most talented driver NASCAR had ever seen, the passing of Kyle Bush. Uh Rodney and I kind of talked about it and then brought Iran, and everybody knew it, but uh Rodney, tell me what you know about uh to this point.

The latest I heard was there was he had some type of sinus issue, and while he was racing that Watkins Glen uh had some other things that came up with that type of race and that style of race and told his crew chief, hey, there's X amount of laps left when I get done have the guy there and it was gonna get some kind of shot. And then he raced the following week.

Ira, how good was he? He was probably one of the best at the time, and people didn't realize how great he was seeing uh seeing that talent in front of him. And it's like a lot of the drivers that we've seen in the past. If you you either really like Kyle Bush, you really hated Kyle Bush. He wasn't a Jamie McMurray and go, oh man, he's he's all right. He he was never that guy. He was uh Darrell Waltrip in the 80s, he was uh Earnhardt in the 90s, he was Jimmy Johnson, early 2000s, he was that type of a polarizing driver. Uh when you start looking at his career, I mean, 63 cup wins, 102 Xfinity wins, 69 truck wins, I mean 234s. If you add all those up, it's the most most wins ever in the three top series combined. So a massive talent. Last couple of years, we had we had seen a drop-off in his performance at Richard Childress, but he had come to the point in his career where he wasn't the hated driver that he was earlier. So he was really getting ready to go into the twilight of his career where he was going to become more appreciated for what he had done in the past. And I just hate that he didn't get to live that part of his career because it it was deserved uh from what he had done for the sport. A lot of his fellow drivers had had driven for him in the past, either with his truck team to be able to get them a start. So it's just a shame uh for the NASCAR community that such a tragedy happened and in such a quick way and where nobody expected it, expected it coming. So Braxton and Lennox are his two kids and Samantha, his wife. Um, our thoughts and prayers go out to them. I know it's gonna be a tough time for him.

And he was one of the few that still raced those other circuits. He he loved that. He just loved to race from from what I gather.

Remember, they broke rules. He was 16 when they got there. They had to rewrite some rules to make him legal. That's how good he was.

Yeah, I I think he would have become more and more appreciated, as you said, Ira, uh as he got older. But he didn't win as much at the big level, at the the top level. But he also didn't for the most part, I don't think he had the equipment. Well, he's still competitive.

He's 69 wins. He won in Hendricks, he went to Gibbs, he won in Gibbs, he's gotten there. They only had one win. I think his last win was twenty-three. I think a lot of that is the program over at Childress was not as good as the others. He was probably gonna be a Dodge guy next week. That's what I thought, because I think that's still coming. But let me tell you something I read this week or I watched on YouTube IRA quickly before we moved to golf. He was interviewed and they said, Hey man, what about going back to Hendrix? He said, Well, if the offer was there, I'd consider it. What about going back to Gibbs? Well, the offer is there, I'd consider it. But I'm at Childress now, we're trying to make this the best. I thought this whole thing was childress watching that, going, I'll show you something, bitch. You're gonna sit this weekend with some mysterious illness, and I'm putting somebody else in the car to show Bam, was I wrong? A, B, those competitors, we talked about it before the show started. Denny Hamlin said, Don't hold your breath if you expect him to win more races just two weeks ago on his podcast. I pulled for Keslowski because he was in a Dodge, and him and Kyle Bush hated each other. That was a actually a humorous feud that they would say during driver induct. Do you remember um Brad Keselowski driver number two Dodge, and Kyle Bush is an ass. I mean, that's how he introduced himself. So there was a lot of polarizing to him. Richard Petty said, and I love the way Richard Petty talks, because he calls that buddy Cat. He said, that cat could win in a Sherman tank. He said, not Earnhardt, not Pearson, not Johnson, the best guy to wheel a car that he had ever seen was Kyle Bush.

So when the truck race came to Richmond last year, I helped sponsor one of the drivers. Young man's name is Caleb Costner. But he said yesterday that Kyle Bush was one of the guys that he could sit down and talk to at any time. He gave him a wealth of knowledge and information and just said he was a great guy and was a huge help with me being in this business trying to get started. Did you sponsor a Toyota? No, it was not a Toyota.

What was it? Doesn't matter now. You you just went up three rankings in my book just by telling me it wasn't a Toyota you sponsored. I believe it was a Chevrolet. Damn guys got so much money, sponsors cars, and don't even know what they are. Partial sponsorship. I know I don't care. Ira, let me ask you one question before we move off, Kyle Bush. As you remember his career, what sticks out the most to you about how uh about him?

I think it's just his tenacity more than anything. And and he and he said what he thought. I mean, I remember he won the um the car of tomorrow uh and got out of it and he said, Yeah, I won it, but I hate I hate driving this piece of sh. I mean, something similar to that, and I mean got in victory lane at Nashville, and I mean it's it's one of the most revered trophies in in NASCAR at the time was that guitar that they give him, and he he went to smash it on the ground. He just did things his way, and I think that's what rubbed people wrong, or that's what me uh endeared him to other people. I th I just think he did it his way and he didn't go to the beat of everyone else. And I think that's that's admirable today. And it's you have very few people out there like that that that just be that they're just themselves. And uh I think he was himself from day one until until now. I thought he lived his life as who he wanted to be instead of what people expected him to be.

But but we compare him to Earnhardt too. Yeah, but I'm saying we compare I don't know that you get Kyle Bush's talent and attitude. Earnhart had some more ambassador to him. Kyle Bush literally got on the microphone, like you said, Iron. If it was a piece of sh it was a piece of shit. You know, I mean, even his own team, like we're horrible. Here's what I'd tell you, too. There was a polarizing side to him. Everybody knows there's a sibling issue. I find it, and I'm told this very frequently, my two brothers and I get along extremely well, and I've had even a lawyer say, this usually doesn't happen. I mean, there's some kind of contention between somebody somewhere. He and uh Kurt didn't get along. They stayed at feud uh quite a bit, but at the end they were still brothers. Hopefully that has some something surfaces about that, maybe what it was. I don't know if it was jealousy, because hell Kurt's a Hall of Famer, right? So he was good.

That all stemmed from the All-Star race where they wrecked each other. Yeah. It says something when Kurt Bush, like you just said, a Hall of Famer in theory, probably in actuality, was jealous of the talent that Kyle had and the and the equipment that Kyle was in, and was able to win at the frequency that he did. Yeah, just a brotherly feud is what they ended up being. But uh, they said grandma set them down at Thanksgiving and worked it out for them.

Well, and the Rays don't have those three, four, five-game losing streaks. And the Yankees have been really hot and cold. Really hot and cold, and their bullpen has been horrendously bad.

Yeah, and you got a AL Central that's got a division lead that's virtually 500, everybody else below. And then you go the NL Central, and the bottom two people are 26 and 24, three AL Central. Yeah, they'd be winning the AL Central. And we see that quite a bit. Uh I'll tell you folks, soon we're gonna have uh I got uh two baseball guests lined up coming. Uh one will be my our boy Doug Flynn, who's really good at analyzing it. And then I've got uh a former major leaguer that played with my brother in college that uh I am working with to get him on here to to talk. Hockey, bet on the dam, the hurricanes last night after a 17-week off time, you know, since I think Hellley last played in February, and they looked like it last night. I thought they would beat the Canadians to death.

Well, Vegas won ironically against what is the best team in hockey, the the Avalanche. So we got one nothing in two series with two teams that shouldn't have been up by theory, one nothing.

Yeah, both row. And then I lost money. I don't want to talk about that. So, Ira, now we go to your favorite golfer winning the PGA. That since you've taken him, well, I mean, you've taken him since October of last year, and finally went to Chambeau. He was taking a week off. Again, how good was that last round for everybody?

I mean, to watch. It was amazing. I couldn't believe uh earlier that day, Kirk Kitiyama went out and shot minus seven, and I thought, oh hell, we're gonna have some fireworks now. Ended up being the best round of the day, but Aaron just never went away. And that's what I thought was really cool about him. He uh he was stayed in the moment. Nobody really took a run at him where where he got nervous, and he played phenomenal, especially on that back nine. He played so good. Those last couple of those closing holes. I mean, I think he made a 63-footer there on that one hole. I mean, obviously played something into that, but God, the moment just wasn't too big for him. And I thought he handled it, handled it well with you know, John Rom right behind him, uh, Luke Big Oberg right there with him, Justin Thomas. I mean, a lot of big names. Roy right there making a run at one given time, but man, he held on at a tough, tough golf course. You can't figure par 70 playing over 7,400 yards is an extremely long golf course, and he uh and he's not the longest hitter on tour. He just uh he hit all the shots when he needed to, and it was uh very impressive round by him.

When you mentioned putts, he had like a six-footer, and I think it was early in the round I was watching. Oh, was it maybe number six? He had like a six-footer, and that would have given him uh a birdie and moved him within two.

But I could tell, and and here's what the difference between him a pro and probably a nice guy and me an asshole. I I would have thrown that putter across a core somewhere. Yeah. And still been, I'd have looked like Happy Gilmore. This guy literally controls his emotion, lines up, makes a putt, and then he talks to, I don't know what he's saying to his caddy, but he talks to his caddy, he's showing him a little bit about what the angle he read, and both of them are agreement they are read. Is that the ambassadorship the PGA is looking for, Ira?

I think what you're seeing from Scott is that's just who he is. He's never been a fiery guy, he's never been the outspoken person. He's that's just how he goes to business. Um he's a smart player where it comes to he knows he can't show himself he can't show his butt out there uh on the golf course. That that it in his mind it's still a gentleman's game, and you know he addresses it that way when he's out there. I just think um you're looking for someone to be not that, you're probably gonna look for a Terrell Hatton someone like that that's uh that wears their emotions on their sleeve that sometimes doesn't do the calculated move move like Scotty does.

I make it out, and I'll say next time I'll throw the bat at the some bitch and he won't catch it the next. I mean, it's just a difference in total approach. You know what I'm saying? I think that's where Scheffler's at.

There's just enough opening where anybody on any given week can win. I think it's gonna be good for the tour when Brooks Cap Club wins again, and I'm sure they're wanting that. He's in contention this week after the first round. I think they're playing to Byron Nelson this week. Um, he's in contention for that. But I don't I don't see any, and there's so many new faces. I couldn't tell you who the next next one to break through is, but I know that the PGA wants and needs certain people to win, and um Kepka would definitely be one of those people.

But that's basketball today. He wouldn't be that way. He wasn't that way when he came in the league. The game wasn't that way. And it is extremely difficult to watch Luca and Shay. They don't even get touched. James Harden. They don't even get touched and they fall down like somebody shot them. These contracts are just terrible.

That is a physical game. I'm not downplaying the physicalness, but there's rules for certain players, they're not for others. It is the league. It is WWE. I wouldn't be shocked at Vince McMahon. And they might be dumbasses because they're financing a league, another league that hadn't made money in 30 years, but they're still pumping it out. I don't have anything good to say about that league. So and I used to be college basketball is where it stopped for me. Hell, I'm getting to where I don't even like college basketball anymore because I don't know if you're not going to be able to do it. They follow the lead of the Yeah, it's it's there. So now he's got me pissed off where I go to football. Let me give you 30 seconds of something I want you to take in. We do this because we enjoy doing it. We're shooting a shit, we're having a good time. There are people that make a lot of money doing this. One of them, again, struck a chord with me this week, not only because he spoke of the Steelers, but because I could see him getting a sh beat out of him on the playground every day of elementary school. No, it's Colin Cowherd. Oh. Does this this guy is worse than a weatherman? He will tell you some of the craziest shit. The Steelers should trade every pick they got to trade up to either Shador Sanders. Well, how would that have worked out for him? The guy doesn't know sh. I don't know how he got this show. I'm just a little miffed because he said something yesterday about the league in general and it involved Aaron Rodgers and some other players. And it wasn't Steeler negative, it wasn't Rogers negative per se, but they blew their chance at this. Ira, in 10 seconds, what makes certain people have the opportunity to have those shows and others who are really knowledgeable be relegated to YouTube or pick something?

It's usually their personality, they're their rashness of what they do. Stephen A. Smith is a good example of it. It's just that they ex ex excite insight. Um what we're what we're talking about right now. I mean, it's not that they're smarter than anyone, it's not that they're better or any of that. It's just uh the longevity they've been in in their business and that they can be very polarizing as far as I mean, I can't believe he said that. I can't believe they say that. And one out of 20 times they may be right, but they they get that conversation going, and that's and it's all about the ratings. It's not about the information, it's not about any of that. So a lot, I mean, hell, your boy Ryan Clark. I mean, he's a perfect example of that. He's he always brings up something that's gonna be, oh my God, I can't believe he said that, but yet he's gonna be on TV because he says those type of things.

I think the biggest thing is the connections that they have, or they know someone that has a connection to get them the opportunity to be there that most people don't have. That's good that's true. That's true in a lot of industry. That's true in a lot of industries.

All right, enough of him. I got that out. Lastly, we'll close with this minute and a half, two minutes here on NFL. I'm going to start this. I started thinking about what international games I'd like to see or not see, and then I come to my point. I don't really care. I I'm not a big international guy. I don't like how they're handling the days off, et cetera, of the travel. Here's a set of games I'm looking forward to, and then I'll allow you all to do the same thing. I'm looking to all four Ram 49er games. I don't like the Seattle-San Francisco matchup, but though those four games in the West I'm looking forward to. I'm really looking forward to what Dallas looks like versus Philly this year. So those two games, uh Dallas and Philly, clearly there's rivalry games. There's the Bears, Packers, Vikings, Bears, Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs, Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers, Bills, Patriots. There's a lot of other things. But I'll tell you, moving into the North or the AFC South, I do think the Texans there's something they they gotta fix Stroud, but I think those Texans Jaguar games will mean something this year. Rodney, is there games you're looking forward to? Games like that.

Well, for us, it's week one. We'll know where we are in in two weeks. We start with the Packers, we follow that with the Bears. We'll know quickly where we are.

We're at home against Green Bay, we're on the road against the Bears. I think the Bears were one of the surprises of last year. I think they have a great coach. But they were like the Vikings a couple years ago. Almost every close game, the ball bounced their way and they they got wins that they maybe shouldn't have. What it all comes down to is we've talked about before, when the game over, the game's over and the scoreboard says triple zeros, whoever's winning at that point, it doesn't matter if the other team should have won, and they were ahead 90% of the game when the whole game was played, this team won. So I think the Bears will take a step back. And if if Kyler Murray can be what he has the capability to be, we could be really tough. That could be some homer in me, but That's a lot of homer in you, but it's okay. Well, we've got a lot of the other pieces. He's got a lot of weapons. Yeah. And a lot of weapons.

We'll get into that lawsuit in a minute. It's getting deeper over there out of Flores. Aura, any games that you're looking forward to, set of games, etc.

Yeah, I I'm looking more at what are what are these new coaches and these new places going to do? I'm thinking what's what's Harwall gonna be able to do with the Giants? Is he could he possibly be coach of the year? Possibly could, depending on what he does. Is the is all the stuff that happened with Vrabel going to impact the Patriots? And I think it will. I think that's a team that you're gonna see miss the playoffs this year. Kubiak with the Raiders, um, what the success looks like there. I have them going eight and nine this year, which would be a huge improvement from where they've been. And I think if coach is gonna be on the hot seat, if if they can't perform, it's gonna be Zach Taylor this year. I mean, Cincinnati has probably been one of the most patient teams with their coaches here recently for an underperforming team, no matter what the situations may be, whether it's injuries or not spending money on defense, but this is probably his last year if they don't do not make a deep playoff run. So that's kind of the things that I'm looking at going into the season.

Well, Cincinnati notoriously is cheap as sh. They don't want to fire him because they have to pay the rest of his contract out. Joe Burrow did state this week this is the most talented roster he's been on that the Bengals have had. Sometimes that's somebody just shooting the sh, but sometimes that's accurate. So I got to take him at his word. I would tell you too, eight and nine for the Raiders would be a big advantage, and then get them out of that stigma of having to make that top five pick and make it work. I'd tell you too that we're we're gonna get into this OTAs. There's two things I want you to think about, people, as we close the show. This Flores lawsuit is much deeper than I thought it was, and and the teams that he's going specifically against and the league, and it still maintains. However, his coaching prowess and the way the person he is has not kept others away. It's not like that's been a you know one of these a disease. Stay away from him, don't talk to him. He's still well regarded in a lot of places. The other thing is we're gonna talk about as we get into minicamp some players. We mentioned before we got on the air, Tyreek Hill now stating, having his camp release, it could be middle of the season before he's ready. I think they're doing that for a reason, and that's hey Indy, or hey, Miami, or whomever the team is, don't be Miami. But don't think about signing me now. He'd much rather get into the season and say, hey, things look really good in Green Bay and they need a receiver. Things look really good in choice for him. Yeah, and I I I get it. So I appreciate it. But there's gonna be more of those players that come out. Uh long shot now, Ira, in preseason football, will there be an injury that will stop us all in our tracks this year?

No, I don't think there will be. You're not gonna see Patrick Mahomes out there slinging it like you would have in the 70s and 80s. I don't think you're gonna I don't think the teams are willing to risk that. Someone will get hurt within the first couple of weeks because they're not in not in football shape because of it.
