There's a guy in Richmond, Virginia named King Nutt. You could pull off several firsts and a second and maybe a fifth and a seventh because you've got that much invested in. He ended up on the radio now and then talking sports. What happened on Saturday is not gonna happen on Sunday, just like what happened on Friday night doesn't happen on Saturday. He's even got good life advice.
SPEAKER_02If you slap your wife, you're going to jail. With this kind of talent, he needs a sidekick. We'll call him Fabio. And I like the way you're talking. With cell phone in hand, he's a sports talk freak show.
SPEAKER_06How are they gonna be able to bond as a team? And that defense hasn't proven anything. They're gonna be able to put up a ton of points, possibly, but how many are they gonna give up?

SPEAKER_05Ladies and gentlemen, another episode of Don't Drop the Soap Sports Podcast. We've been off a week, had some moving uh activities that took us out. Um, but we are back together again. SPEAKER_06Just swimming out. Swimming out. Did y'all get a downpour of rain? We did earlier this week. I had my basement turn into a swimming pool.
SPEAKER_05He went down and launched himself through there and waited, and Julie brought him some cherries and julepes down there, and that got him a little ill to his stomach. That's all it was. And some fruit punch, Tropicana Zero Sugar with Bacardi. That is called your summertime rum punch there, brother. Let's get into it. Miles Garrett, fellas. Is it the Cleveland Browns being the Cleveland Browns? Because I got an opinion. I'll go to you first, but is it the Browns being the Browns or was it smart on both parties?
SPEAKER_06I think it's smart on both parties. Um you're looking at a Miles Garrett that's 30 years old, and they're getting a Mr. Jared Verse that's 25 years old and is an up-and-coming player in the league. Plus, you're getting three high picks. I I like what Cleveland has done here. Uh I like what the Rams have done as well. Rams are a win right now team. The Browns obviously aren't a right now team, but with that draft capital and a young person like that on their defense, I think it's a win-win for both teams. When I saw it, I I didn't go out. There they go again. I was I thought it was a great trade for them.
SPEAKER_05I thought that this year's draft showed a change in the Browns because the Browns have been the Browns since they came back in the league. I mean, they've had a few playoffs in there. And then I said that to somebody. It reminded me that the Steelers are uh one and six in their last seven trips to Cleveland, which I suddenly, you know, I know four fat people five fat people, and you're four of them. That kind of reality was hit to me right there. So not not a not a bad thing, but uh I I thought is the weakest division in football. Well, I don't know about that. Just kidding. Good thing you're asking in live in studio today. But so Rodney, before I go to you, let me let me show you this. So they get a one, they get Verse, which was the defensive rookie of the year in 24. They get a first next year, a second the year after, and a third the year after that. Plus verse, is Garrett gonna hit the wall that Watt has hit? They're the same draft class, but Watt was older. So, Rodney, is that gonna happen?
SPEAKER_07I'm with with Ira. I think it's great for both both sides. You never know how it's gonna play out, but at this point, I definitely think it's good for both sides. The Rams are a, like you said, a win now. If they can get Donald to come back, that would be huge. But I think Garrett's gonna be really good with the Rams. I think he's got a great supporting cast over there. I think he's got an exceptional coach. He's bigger than Watt. I guess there's some talk that he may move down inside some.
SPEAKER_05If you have a coaching staff that's willing to go outside the box, you don't place a guy like that. In fact, Pittsburgh's gonna change this year, too. And Ira brought it up to me pre-tape here that they signed Herbick to a hundred million dollar deal. So now they got a hundred million dollars a year tied up outside linebacker, so they're gonna use them, you know, to get what they can get. But uh what what do you think, Rodney, about does this take LA and make them the best team in the league, period?
SPEAKER_07At this point, in my opinion, they are, but as you know, things can change in a split second. I mean, a key injury here or there and changes everything for you. But on paper, I don't know who's stronger.
SPEAKER_06I yeah, they're the best team in football right now. And I think the everybody will be gunning for them. They're gonna be hard to beat. Even without him, they was probably still the odds on Super Bowl odds winner. But um this makes them even stronger.
SPEAKER_05So Well, I I liked them last year, and I think this makes them better. And you know, that repeat thing, I I don't believe in that, but we know by by theory that it's tough to repeat. And Seattle, ironically, it's not just tough to repeat, it's tough to repeat in a division that had a team that went 12-5 that was playing people that had never played football before by the end of the year and they were still winning. And you had a Rams team that you were a they were a playaway in that championship game to get it, and then the the Cardinals, but those three teams, I don't know. It's very tough. So maybe the rest of the NFL get fortunate and they'll beat on each other.
SPEAKER_07Well, you gotta remember too, Stafford's got some age to him. Had a phenomenal year last year. But he's getting up in age, so that's gonna be tough for him to repeat what he did last year.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there's no doubt. I'm a McVay. I I believe that coach and staff's very good. 1,000%. Well, let me flip it one other thing on there. You mentioned uh Ira and I talked earlier, and Ira, I'll go to you first on this. There was a lot of sh being talked all over. Aaron Donald's coming back, da-da-da. And I'm like, I told my son, this is bullshit. He ain't coming back. A guy was, you know, arguably, he's certainly top five defensive tackles of all time. Arguably the best, right? I didn't see Joe Green play. I mean, I was a fan, I saw him play, but I didn't know football. I just knew he was mean Joe Green. And but he also had a supporting cast around him, and you could argue that. Uh I would never forget. Let me finish Rosie. Uh Rosie uh what the hell was he? Rosie Green, Rosie O'Donnell and Rosie Greer, both of them were great nose tackles. Um but but you have Alan Page, you have some really talented defensive tackles over time. I would say that the arguably Aaron Donald changed games more than maybe any of the others did. But now they're saying, I just read a quote for him that makes it awfully intriguing. Is it enough hour to bring him back?
SPEAKER_06I think it's good to keep him in the in the news, but I don't think he'll be coming back. I think it would only tarnish what he's done in the past. Uh I just don't see how he could be the same player. I know he hasn't had to wear and tear of football on him, but he has gotten older as well. So I think they'll be fine without him. It would be great news if he did come back. Kind of like Von Miller, you know, whenever he travels somewhere, the impact he's supposedly going to make and he's not making it, but that's a great name to have on your team. I just don't see uh I don't see him coming back.
SPEAKER_07I think he'll make an attempt. I don't know whether he will actually make it back, but I think he will do some things to move himself in that direction. He was a stud when he retired. He wasn't back in or going on the backside. So yeah, he's been gone a couple of years, but that's also like you said a second ago, Ira, that's two years of beating that he didn't take on his body.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's 35 now, so I you know, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Well, Cam Hayward's playing at a high level, and I and I know that's a stealer, but that's that's fact too. He's playing at a high level in his late 30s now, and as good as Cam Hayward is, he ain't Aaron Donald. And I saw Aaron Donald on Cam Hayward's Super Bowl podcast this week. I just happened to be Googling, saw it, or searching on YouTube and saw it. He even mentioned in there he was down 30 some pounds, his workouts had changed, etc. So, you know, now getting weight back on, or maybe they put him on a pitch count like they did Von Miller, you know, and do something like that. But I I'll bring this back when you you ever notice uh Joe Stock and I did this at the Super Bowl in 2011, 10 season 11 Super Bowl. We're in Dallas watching the Steelers and the Packers, and they have a Steeler session at a bar, and it's Barry Foster, Dwight Stone, a couple people in there, and Joe Stock walks up to Barry Foster, who was a pretty good running back. I think he ran at 205 pounds, and I bet he weighed 500. And Joe Stock walks up to him and says, My favorite lineman from the era, Joel Steed. And the guy looked at him and said, Hey man, f you. I'm not Joel Steed. And what what the reason I bring that up is generally speaking, the lineman, Alan Fanico, who's a Hall of Famer for the Steelers, guys like under 200 pounds now, and he played at 315. He's a runner. They change their bodies. It seems the receivers and the cornerbacks and safeties get fat, and all the linemen go the other way because they stop in taking those calories and those workouts. The reason I say that, last thing about Donald and the Rams is at that point, if he comes back, obviously the odds increase, but what are the increasing odds there, Ira? How much better does that even make him?
SPEAKER_06I would say marginally better. You're not going to see a tick where Vegas is all in on him. It'll be a marginal tick. He can't be an every down player, I don't believe. So I don't I don't think you'd see a blip. He gives him more depth. It would give him depth.
SPEAKER_05Well, it gives him that spurt. And it's a different when you're on a pitch count. A guy plays 20 plays a game rather than 60. He's probably a little more effective. A lot of hold-ins going in in these mini games. The Steelers got had two. Now Herbig signed, so that they got a lot of money tied up in outside pass runners, but Joey Porter is a hold-in. That's happened. The Raiders have one of those. I saw that the Giants even have one. Getting through the Jackson Dart and Abdul Carter spat that needs not to be a spat. Everybody needs to keep their ass out of their politics. And that goes from Bruce Springsteen's ass to Kid Rock, and I'm a Kid Rock fan. Just stay the hell out of it and perform for us the same way with football. Play the damn game. You make a lot of money. Michael Jordan once said, everybody on the planet buys tennis shoes. So just play some harmony. I'll get that out of the way. Now there's hold-ins. Rodney, we're going to switch to your team quickly. Your boy JJ had some statements about his competition with Kyler Murray, and they're kind of trying to bury it. I think O'Connell's a guy that will be very good at that. But but what what does it mean as a Viking fan? How do you take that as a Viking fan, what's going on there?
SPEAKER_07On one hand, you think it's you're standing up for yourself, I get that, but you shouldn't be afraid of competition. So it wasn't like you were on fire the entire year last year, and they haven't come out and said collars are one, you're R2. It's uh competition, and if you're scared of competition, professional sports is probably not the best place for you. I think the biggest problem for him, he's two years in and he started ten games or less than ten. He needed all 17 games last year for him to get the experience of what it's like to be an NFL quarterback, a number one. And Murray's on a one-year deal, too. There's nothing that says he may not be the same thing as Sam Darnold. He could come have a great year for us, falter at the end, and we not sign him. So I don't think you need to be jumping up and down saying, if I'm not the starter, I don't want to be here. I think you should be a man about it and play it out and see how it works out. Give it a hundred percent, give it everything you got, and see where you are. And you know, if you're performing well and he's just outperforming you and they sign him to a long-term deal at the end of the year, they're gonna get rid of you. They're not gonna keep you around.
SPEAKER_05Ira, outsider looking in, does that affect you as a uh guy looking at the Vikings, or is it just what Rodney said, a guy that's gotta have a little confidence and believe in himself?
SPEAKER_06It's a guy that hasn't performed up to his expectations, I believe, and worried that there's a more talented person in the locker room now that that's does the same job that he does. Outside looking in, I think the Vikings would be much better off if he wasn't in that locker room. I just don't think he's a talented enough quarterback to be a starter in NFL. JJ, that is.
SPEAKER_05So maybe the they look at something of maybe moving him on. Uh somebody has a quarterback go down and camp and then they re-reset themselves. Uh in fact, I saw this week that because the Steelers are carrying four quarterbacks, all of them, McCarthy's gonna say the right thing in the press, right? Of course, you got Aaron Rodgers, but you got Drew Aller this year's third round pick, Will Howard, who's seems to be not just the town's favorite, but the staff's favorite. And then you got Mason Rudolph, a career backup, who Rodney saw starting a game with me against the Lions in the rain that they flipping tied on. They tied the Lions that had been over 16 the year prior. I don't want to go into that because they started good, but Rodney laughed at me during it. A good thing it was four or five stock sisters between us, or it could have been an issue.
SPEAKER_07But uh, real quick about McCarthy, we can't go into the year the way we did last year. We were all in on him, and I was okay with that. But you can't have what we had for backups last year.
SPEAKER_05No, and that's what I was about to say. Mason Rudolph's biggest link, Rodney, is to the Vikings right now. The biggest link to a trade for Mason Rudolph is not the Cardinals, where everybody said, but it is the Vikings. Now they didn't there was no throne out there of, well, McCarthy's gonna be gone to be, but but there's something about the way O'Connell handles, and Mason Rudolph has been a very solid backup, and he did okay as a starter in Tennessee. They were horrible, and he's he's got a winning record as a starter in Pittsburgh when he's had to fill in either for Rothesburg or Pickett, whoever he filled in for. He's also got a tap. Yeah, bastard. Hockey started last night, which sucked for me because I bet on the hurricanes big, and they lost, which they had lost their first game to the Canadians and just seemed to piss them off. Hockey has done an extremely good job in the model of the NFL marketing. And I was telling Ira before we started, I can't even watch the between period things anymore because I don't know enough about hockey and I don't want to hear that shit over and over and over. But they do an extremely good job on TV audiences. They do a s uh a fantastic job of filling the arenas with something to do, and they're expensive tickets too. They're creeping up there like all the other major sports are. The reason I bring that up is a lot going on, but you flip that tonight starts the NBA finals. And I must bring this up because it's a humorous fact that Trump says he's gonna go at least to one game, and hopefully he brings the Knicks some luck and they're able to bring their their uh championship back. And then the governor of New York, Hogel, then answers, huh? He's not gonna help them. I bet you he can't even tell me the starting five of that 93 championship team, to which the reporter replied, uh, Miss Hogel, um, they didn't have a 93 championship team. The last championship was 73. So we will see. Um if you can Don't you love it when that happens? I I do. I do. But but now I you know I'm telling you, I'm still all in on the hurricanes. Ira not a big hockey guy, nor are you, Rodney, but you're both I'm I think the hurricanes are the team that I think they're gonna win. Well, you're you're both bigger NBA fans than I am. What happens, Ira first, what happens in this series between San Antonio and the New York Knickebackers?
SPEAKER_06I believe uh it's what the NBA would want. Uh you could have a villain-ish team that just got taken out with Oklahoma City with an up-and-coming young roster. I think their three best players are 22 years or age or younger. Uh yeah, I think you have the face of the league with Victor Wimbanyana uh as the as the new superstar of the NBA going into a big market like New York and getting the people that don't typically watch uh those late games will get to see this young man play. And uh what I think you'll see is it'll go six or seven games, and I I believe San Antonio will squeak this series out. I think that the way they play, the the defense that they play, they're gonna be good. Um it wouldn't shock me though if the Knicks won. They have a very good roster now, a great point guard with Brunson, the uh with Tar uh Car Anthony Towns on that team. They have a good inside out game. So I think it'll be a good series. Uh just who can make the big shots, I think they're at the end, uh at the end of the games is what's gonna define the series.
SPEAKER_07I agree with you on one point. I think San Antonio's gonna win, but I don't think it's gonna go seven games. I think it'll be five, possibly six. They're just a better team. Brunson will have some struggles with that kid, uh, Castle, I believe is who it is. He's a defensive. Brunson's got a little bit of croche in him. He's a flopper. So if they've kind of shut that down and not going to be giving cheap stuff to him, Brunson's had a great year, he's had a great career. San Antonio's a better team. I think the West is better than the East this year. I think San Antonio will win possibly in five. They have nothing, nothing to stop Victor.
SPEAKER_05Uh first question for you, Ryan. Is either team got a Duke Blue double on it?
SPEAKER_07For some reason I feel like San Antonio might, but I don't believe the Knicks do.
SPEAKER_06I read either team have a heel on it. We got Harrison Barnes playing for the uh is he still playing? Oh yeah, he's only 34. Damn, he was a great college.
SPEAKER_07He plays probably 15 minutes a game? Probably about 15 a game, something like that.
SPEAKER_05It doesn't mean it's a production. Um that's how it works.
SPEAKER_07So and you're saying he's he's still participating. He comes in and he's had some good minutes for them in the playoffs.
SPEAKER_06Well, his last stat was three minutes, zero points, zero assists, and zero breathing. I've been there.
SPEAKER_05Hey, when I used to play church basketball, my stat line, my stat line since I was called instant offense, but I had no stamina, my stat line would be three minutes in the first half with five to six points and four fouls. And then I would come in for one minute in the second half, score once, and foul out. That's perfect. And I'd grab the shit out of anybody. It was great. It was a great time. Uh praise God. Church basketball was great. All right, so I'm gonna flip out of that because I really give two shits about the NBA for nothing. But here's what I do care about. I think college baseball and softball are the best sports. I I'm becoming more and more enamored with softball. We got white chocolates, kid getting hit by pitch, and then winning games with walk-off home runs. I really like five times. Five times. Five times in one series, five times.
SPEAKER_07Well, she got hit by Florida.
SPEAKER_05Yep.
SPEAKER_07And what did her daddy say? Well, their coach says, Well, we certainly didn't do it on purpose. How do you hit somebody five times? They almost had a brawl in girls' softball. I've never seen that. I love that. My understanding from what he said was he'll never step on that campus again unless his daughter's playing for the other team against him. That's what I heard.
SPEAKER_05I already watch it. I do. Well, I'm telling you right now, I uh it's it's exciting. I am a big fan of ponytails. I'm a large fan of uh the visor caps or the caps with the ponytail pulled through. Very big fan of uniforms. And I'm a very big fan of those girls have more fundamental stuff to them than men do. One. Two is they're more spirited than men are. They that's chance and the stuff's going on. It's it's imp it's so now we have Texas Tech, right? The Red Raiders. Correct. And they're playing that's who she plays for. Yeah, that's who she plays for, and they're and they're in the finals. And so that that'll be a good series. College baseball, these regionals, my brother played at VCU, so he went down to Chapel Hill to see VCU get railed by the Tar Heels in the first round. They came back and beat Tennessee in a second round, it's an impressive thing, and then ECU beats VCU and then has to play the Heels two hours later. So you run out of pitching. And here's what I don't get to. It's almost like a two-game guarantee because it's not technically double elimination if you're the winner. So Carolina had won two games. If they would have lost a championship, they didn't have to be beaten twice. It's that's the championship to get there. The only, I guess, thing is you get rest and you get time to get there. These regionals, the number one, two, number one and number two teams in the country, Georgia Tech two, number one in UCLA, Virginia Tech had UCLA beat and gave up back-to-back home runs and a walk-off single. Uh that's to me, it goes back to what college basketball used to be. All you got to do is get there and give yourself a shot. Team like Milwaukee, for that matter, Troy, uh, Florida's out as a uh number eight overall seed. All the big boys are kind of gone. It makes it level. If you're not watching, folks, college baseball is an extremely exciting sport, much better, I think, even than the big league game that they're they're striving to get to. So uh college softball and baseball, we're big on that. Watch these World Series, these super regionals, I think, start tomorrow or today. Um, and it's a little bit different format than as you have these kind of play-in games to get there.

SPEAKER_05I'm gonna flip it, uh, Ira, we've missed last week, so we had some golf tournaments. And before I tell you golf, on Memorial Day, my son and his family's over, and uh I'm watching it on TV, and I look at him, it's about the twelfth hole, and uh I said, uh, Zach, I think I'm gonna put in a bet right now that Scheffler's gonna come through to win this thing. And he said, Well, I'll bet with you right now. And I said, What the hell you mean you bet with him right now? He said, I'll bet you whatever you want. I'll take my guy and you take Scheffler, and we'll bet whatever you want. We'll bet houses. So I thought, well, I don't it doesn't matter. The damn tournament was played the day before. I was watching the final round, betting on and and he didn't. I thought it was a rain out or something, so I'm watching it all intent like it meant something. Hell, the thing was over. I should have.
SPEAKER_04I mean, he laughed at me for 30 minutes after that. In fact, the baby started laughing. That was her first laugh. She was laughing at her daddy, laughing at me.
SPEAKER_05Ira, when is Scheffler gonna win?
SPEAKER_06Because he's there every week. He is there every week. It's just uh it's just his putting a little bit. That's a little bit off and and getting off to fast starts. Um, I think he'll be strong this week at the memorial. He's he's played good there in the past. He's you know, he's defending champion. I can't tell you he's gonna win it, but I can I can tell I can promise you he's gonna make it industry on Sunday, either barely holding on to a lead or making that late charge like he's been doing here, it feels like every week uh that he plays. But man, I don't know. He's just uh he's just a tick off. And honestly, I don't think he cares. I think he's more about his family right now than he has when he was uh dominating the tournaments. So I think he's still in a good place as far as as far as him. And and good for him that it doesn't mean the world to him to go out there and and win every week, that he's his priorities are a little different than they used to be. And and that's also given you know opportunity. A lot of these uh younger golfers that have come up and they're making the name for themselves. I mean, this kid Alex Smalley's been on a tear lately. I know he hasn't won anything, but man, I've looked every time I look up, he's top five, it feels like, and he was top five again last week, and uh wouldn't shock me again for him to be in contention this week. But um Crystal Ball can't tell you when he's gonna win again. I just know he's gonna keep it interesting.
SPEAKER_07He just gave Sheffler the kiss of death because he's a big de Shambeau guy who didn't even know. That's true. He just gave Sheffler the kiss of death.
SPEAKER_05Uh he ain't Kurt Gowdy him. I gotta ask you a question just as an analyzation of me, Rodney. Here's what doesn't make any sense to me. I have a 400-pound bench presser, ball sitting still on a T, I got a big ass club. You'd think I'd be able to hit that son bitch far as a guy that weighs 165 pounds that looks like he's 12 years old, but I ain't got a chance. Is the golf swing to you the most rehearsed practice thing in sport to be competitive?
SPEAKER_07I would think so because taking the example that you just said, there are guys that, like you said, play golf that are not big fellas at all, but the way they turn their hips, the way they use their wrists, their hands, they can hit it a mile. And then there's a big guy who muscles up and can't hit it that far. But taking that in comparison to the game that you and I play all the time, Bubba Softball, golf, the ball's not moving, it's sitting there. Softball could be higher, it could be lower inside, outside, so there's different things to that. But I think golf is one that you feel like if you played it enough, you should be good at it. The ball's not moving, it's sitting there. But the other part of that is who thought of a game that you put a hole 500 yards away and say, hit this ball in that hole 500 yards away.
SPEAKER_00Here's my idea for a full. I knock a ball in a gopher hole.
SPEAKER_05He was drunk crazy. It's a Robin Williams there. It was a drunk guy that thought, man, let's L, there's a big field, no trees out here. Let's go hit this damn thing around. I right ask you, I'm gonna give you five picks, and then we're gonna go quickly to baseball, quickly to racing. You got a golf swing, you clearly have to take BP, work on it. Your field comes to you, and it should stick with you as you get a little older, but you got BP, you got to work on swings. You got a quarterback that's got to throw, and linemen that got to work with their hands, etc. A basketball player's got to shoot, you know, to make his sh continue being a good shooter. Is golf, to you, Ira, the one that requires the most attention, singular attention, I guess, to be to perform.
SPEAKER_06I would say yes, because you you got one chance at every shot. That's it. I mean, baseball you can foul it off, right? You you got you got more coming at you. I mean, I would say that's probably a harder thing to do is hit a b hit a round object with a round a round bat you know, circumference going a hundred however fast it's going, but it's such a mental.
SPEAKER_05You should have seen me on Monday, it was going six miles an hour underhanded and round. I still screwed that up. Still having a rough time. We'll get to that later. Some bitch, I don't think uh any.
SPEAKER_06And as as the as the pressure ramps up it in between your ears really becomes tough in golf. It doesn't matter how much you practice, how much you're if you're not in those moments, you can't you can't respond the way you need to. Your body just doesn't react the way it should. So I think it's really a tough game.
SPEAKER_05I figured out my issue now.
SPEAKER_06Well, I'll beat the drum and hold the phone.
SPEAKER_05Quickly, the Major League Baseball. We're getting close to that all-star break. A lot of movement. So you got a team like the Pirates that went from last to second. If they were in two other divisions, they'd be in first. You got the Yankees keeping pace up there with the Rays, the Braves on fire playing 667 ball, uh eight and a half, nine and a half up on the Phillies or Nationals, whoever's right there behind them. That NL West is going to be what it is. Uh the AL West is all losing teams. The Central, you got the White Sox that didn't win 30 games for two years in a row, are right there chasing the Guardians. Is there anybody IRA to you that to this point is you've scratched your head one way or the other?
SPEAKER_06The Braves have still shocked me. I mean, the way they played last year and the Phillies too, in the same one. I thought the Phillies would run away with that, and the Braves are continuing to match stride here with them. They're both six and four in the last ten games. But uh really out of nowhere. I mean, I expect the Dodgers to be where they're at. Uh Yankees, if they can get their their pitching under control, they'll be fine. But uh it's for me, it's that NL East has just uh shocked me so far.
SPEAKER_07I'm with you. I think the Braves are the surprise on the positive side, on the flip side of that division, just like you're talking about. I think the Phillies are surprised that they're they've done better since they changed managers, but I think a lot of people also thought the Mets were going to be pretty good and they've been terrible. I did. Now let me ask you. I'm not upset about that at all. I'm still telling you it's brewers and braves on that side.
SPEAKER_05And who isn't on the other side?
SPEAKER_07I think the Yankees have a shot if they can get their bullpen straight. If my cousin Garrett Cole can can continue to pitch well. We got three really good starters. You got three good starters, and you get to the playoffs, you're pretty tough. So I think they've got a shot. Tampa Bay's been playing exceptionally well. I don't think anything anybody from the the Cleveland division will be a factor when it comes down to the to the playoffs. Obviously, one of them will make it, but I don't think any of them will be a factor.
SPEAKER_05Certainly the West won't. Let me ask you a final question. We're gonna move to racing. How many games at the all-star break does a team have to be up in their division before you say it's over?
SPEAKER_07I would think you're probably to say it's over, you probably have to be up 15 games. Think about back in 78 when the Yankees came back from so far down to the to the Red Sox. You know what?
SPEAKER_05They had Louisiana Lightning then, brother. 25 and 3 Cy Youngwood. Right. LeBron Gidry, second favorite, so maybe my favorite, him and Glavin were two. I don't know how many games up, it means it's over. What did Yogi Barron say?
SPEAKER_06It's not over till it's over, right? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I mean, he said some he said some shit Bub Sneed says. I mean, there's some statements that came out. I don't know. I would I I don't hate that 15 number at all. So Okay. I was thinking more like 10. I think the Braves get the office. It's over for the Braves now. Well, no, I said at the break. SPEAKER_06I'd say through end of next year, I would imagine uh they'll give him that long. Because when he's on, he's on. I mean, he's he's had some phenomenal races. He's just uh this week he's wrong place at the wrong time. Uh, but there's been times where his temper and his uh temperament for the for people around him just haven't equaled out to a finish because he wants to uh retaliate when he feels like he's been wronged on the racetrack. And he's been in the sport long enough where he should be able to control that, and he just hasn't yet. Michael Jordan, I think, will give him him and Danny will give him another this year and end of next year to get it figured out, and hopefully he does.
SPEAKER_07I think he's had every opportunity in the world already. I think he's good at tracks that require less driving and just his car's better than others. Because right now, you can't tell me that the Toyota cars, when you step on the track or you drive on the track, that they're not the better car at this moment in most of those tracks. Well, Petty's cars are the best equipment.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Petty's Toyotas are not performed, but that's trip, you know, they are a lower budget uh secondary team, and that's why I think Dodge will come back and throw some money at that team, too. But uh, here's another question quickly on this racing thing when it brings up that the manufacturers and I. Same thing with baseball, Ira. We're about halfway through there. And if you would say the chase format comes down, we we believe we know who's being who's gonna win the chase if you were betting right now.
SPEAKER_06Right now, I think it would be Denny Hamlin. I think he's been the most consistent driver. I know he doesn't have the most wins, but uh several of those tra several of those wins that Reddick had. He passed the guy on the last, which he did lead the lap that he had to lead, but he led the last lap. He led the last couple hundred feet of a couple of those races, and then he dominated a couple of others, but Denny's been the most consistent driver uh this year. And I think he'll be competing against his teammates, too. I mean, Christopher Bell's been really strong lately, and and Briscoe's really turned it up last couple weeks. So I think it'll be between those Hendrix cars, I mean those Gibbs cars this year.
SPEAKER_07Don't forget the Hendrix cars, and Denny doesn't have a whole lot of friends.
SPEAKER_05Denny's never a champion, right? Last year was the one he wanted when his dad was sick, and it was a good one. Yeah, he had the one last year until four or five laps ago. Yeah, yeah. I agree with you. There's something Hendrix got it, there he's got a lot of money and a lot of pride, so he's gonna put something in there. Something tells me that Tyler Reddick's gonna have something to say about this when it's all said and done and is Toyota. Absolutely. That's T Y O T A, Toyota. Um I swear to you, I know there's certain memories you have of your parents, and and uh uh, you know, we it's certain it's certainly you never want to lose them, but some of my fondest daily smiles are thinking something will happen, and I'd think about what my dad would say during that. And uh I'd see that race over and Danny Hamm, I'd say, hey man, he's a Richmond guy.
SPEAKER_04I don't give a damn. He's driving a damn Toyota. And some bitches get more free stuff and they don't have all this pre-tax money, and we you can't test the American car's dad money. It ain't fair. Let them some bitch the next thing are gonna be a Hyundai in there.
SPEAKER_05I said, uh, Dad, uh the Toyota is a Toyota, and the Hyundai is a Hyundai. I don't give a damn what they call them.
SPEAKER_04Do they remember Pearl Harbor? I said, Dad, this ain't 45 anymore. Holy sh. And you were only six months old when that happened. Come on, man.
SPEAKER_05Uh he had something to say about it all the time, and that's that's fun, and that's part. I I think racing has been uh they need to do something because that F1 is catching on. You got kids that are waking up all hours to watch, you know, this Formula One and the Grand Prix of this and the Grand Prix of that. And I got corrected when I said it was a Grand Prix. Uh my son's a Grand Prix, and I said, and that's a Toyota. How about that, big boy? Um so I think the Hendrix car is gonna have something to do with it. I uh something says Pinski here. There's something off with the Fords, there's certainly something off with the Chevies. Uh if you look at the amount of cars by manufacturers in there, the ones clearly Toyota's performing the best. Uh Chevy is kind of secondary. Ford has had some strong cars, but not total cars, and that front row motorsports is making some noise, and again, something I thought would be a good flagship for Dodge a takeaway. Rodney, as we close this thing, any thoughts of athletics this week or what's upcoming this week you'd like to chime in.
SPEAKER_07Well, the first thing I'd like to do is wish my mother, who had her 90th birthday this past Sunday. So I want to wish her a happy birthday again. She's, like I said, 90 years old. She's my hero. Uh athletically, the first two games of the NBA finals will be tell you everything. If San Antonio wins the first two games, it's over.
SPEAKER_05Thank you, Nostrodomas. Um and it is cool to say your mother's your hero. Everybody has that that kind of feeling, and we came up in a generation where our parents weren't our friends. Uh in fact, they told us no more than yes, and somehow we still understood that they were our parents as we grew. Uh, Ira, last thoughts with you.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how AJ Brown's gonna fit back again with his old coach and his team and how that's impacting Philadelphia. That's uh interesting combination there. I think it uh was more detrimental to Philadelphia than it will be positive to uh the Patriots. But time will tell. Uh just seems how he can mesh uh learning how to catch a uh football again versus uh blocking as a wide receiver. It felt like he did more of that than anything last year. But um trades this week were we're pretty wild in the NFL, which keeps us on our toes. I can't wait for that season to start up again.

They need multiple pieces, and they did extremely well this year drafting, and it appears like they've set themselves up for the next couple drafts. But also remember these are the same dumbasses that wanted the NFL to change a rule that you could cha trade five years out on draft picks. I mean, and you know, in Cleveland's history, that'll be three coaches and two GMs in five years. So I mean, you're screwing not just one guy, but multiple guys in the upcoming thing.
